Shane Kirk > UFO OR CLOUD? I will never forget this early morning storm. I left my house around 7:00 p.m. and took photos off and on for almost eight hours! I got a call from my wife while standing in a field shooting this storm. She asked if I had planned on coming home before work. When I asked her what time it was she said 3:30 a.m.! Time flies when you're having fun! I was two hours from home and had to be to work at 8:00!
Shane Kirk > This photo was taken after an ice storm hit the Kansas city area on December 13th, 2007. It was perhaps the most quiet morning I've been out as most people were home and schools were closed. You would be surprised how loud the sound was as the horses walked across the icy field!
Shane Kirk > This shot was taken on October 13th,2007 in Kansas City,Kansas in the Lakeside race-track parking lot. The clouds were so wicked looking with this storm! I stayed and took as many shots as I could before the rains came. I wanted to capture the underside of the clouds as the lightning lit them up. I felt lucky with this shot as two shots later my back-up battery was dead after an all night chase! I have since bought a charger for my vehicle!
Shane Kirk > This shot was taken at the Nelson-Atkins Art museum here in Kansas City. The badminton birdie or "shuttlecock" on the left stands at over 18 feet and weighs over 5,500 pounds! They are placed at different locations on the grounds.
Shane Kirk > June 5th, 2008 near Maryville, Missouri.Outflow boundary with a flash of lightning in the distance.Talk about windy! This same storm had a few tornado warnings on it earlier in the day. On my way back home there was a tornado warning in Savannah,Missouri and I just so happened to be driving through! I had to pull over under an overpass just in case! Not a safe place but I'd much rather take my chances there than on the highway in the dark! The lightning would light-up the sky and there were some VERY low clouds and lightning extremely close.A very eerie feeling.
Shane Kirk > I am originally from the great SCENIC state of Utah. I have to admit I miss the mountains, Moab, Arches, Zion, Capital reef, Bryce, Lake Powell, Alta and well you get the point! Even with it being so flat out here there is so much beauty in the simple things. I have grown to appreciate the Kansas and Missouri states!
Shane Kirk > "LIGHTNING MAN" was the name given to this photo by my wife. When I got home after 5 hours of chasing storms, she told me this looked like a stick figure looking down at the earth. I would have never noticed!
Shane Kirk > This Red-tail hawk is one of three that hang around some office buildings near my home. They will swoop down and catch squirels, chipmunks and rabbits.I hang around so much they will get within 10-15 feet from me!
